Opening the evening’s entertainment at Arts Seen is the band, Revolution; playing from 6:30 PM to approximately 8:15 PM. Playing a large selection of Beatles songs, as well as other hits from the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s, they most recently performed in front of a crowd of 8,000 at PNC Field, home of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders. Band members Dave Cupano (bass, vocals) and Joe Tona (rhythm guitar, vocals) have been playing together since their days on the local folk-rock scene back in the 1970’s. They had never collaborated with Tom Gavern (lead guitar, vocals) before, but quickly jelled with him. “They started singing harmony, they heard something different and it really energized them so they said, “We’ve got to work together.” Mr. Gavern has played with a number of notable bands over the years, including Take 5, Hickory Rose, Fifth Avenue (which became Daddy-O and the Sax Maniax) and the Fabulous Fortunes. They feel their real selling point is their harmonies, and they were united by their deep love of The Beatles.

A lovely young lady, who just recently finished 5th grade at Isaac Tripp Elementary School, will also be at Arts Seen for the evening supporting a great cause! Isabella “Izzy” DeFlice, 11, created Izzy’s Sweets Bake Sale to give back to her community. This year it will be providing aid to “No Kid Hungry”. As a toddler, she and her Mother were homeless. With the help of the Catherine McAuley Center and other community supports, her Mom was able to finish school, start a career, and now Izzy has a beautiful home and life with her Mom and Dougie. Izzy has been dancing since she was three years old, just completed a scholarship with Ironworks Taekwondo Academy that she earned last year, and is an active cast member of productions with United Neighborhood Center’s children and teens theatre group as well as REV Theatre Company. She wants to thank all her family and friends for supporting her, especially the Hyer, DeFlice and Tucker families. Izzy bakes all of her own treats and hopes to see you at one of her bake sales. Arts Seen Gallery Co-op & Café, in collaboration with Izzy and her project and through October, will be donating 5 cents of each baked good sold from our café to help Izzy with her donations to No Kid Hungry. After First Friday hours, 9 to 11 PM on First Fridays with sign ups and mingling promptly at 8:30 PM, features our talented “Be Seen” open mic hostess, Chelsi Louise, and the hilarious comedian, Dan Hoppel.

Dan Hoppel started at Wisecrackers Comedy Club and went through the rigors of new talent night and hosting spots to develop a voice and personality that has comedy and night clubs asking for more. Dan’s humble and candid style of comedy brings a keen edge to conventional opinions on pity sex, dating after divorce and society’s dependence on technology; and allows for an authentic viewpoint audiences haven’t heard yet. Dan is a winner of the NEPA Scene Open Mic Competition, a finalist in NEPA Scene’s Got Talent, and has hosted, among others, The Woodlands Mid-Winter Showcase and will be hosting the Summer Showcase at the Kirby Center.

Since January of 2015, Chelsi has been the hostess of the “Be Seen” open mic at the gallery. Born in Michigan, the 24 year old, has spent most of her life here in NEPA. She is a graduate from Keystone College with a B.S. Degree in Secondary Social Studies Education. Currently she works as an Admissions Specialist at Penn Foster in Scranton, PA. In her spare time she enjoys practicing yoga and taking day trips that include discovering new vegan foods and coffee shops. Chelsi has also recently delved into the world of photography (check out Radical Visions via Facebook). When she’s not out on an adventure she spends much of her time doing activist and volunteer work. She’s the founder of the Pennsylvania Animal Save (P.A.A.S.) and the up and coming group Simple and Positive (SAP), which will begin meeting in the summer of 2015. June marks her 5 year anniversary of volunteering at Indraloka Animal Sanctuary in beautiful Mehoopany, PA. Her 2014 brainchild, Indralokafest, a local rock musical festival that benefits the sanctuary, will be happening again this year on August 15th to 16th..

Starting July 8th, Jennifer Amazon, owner of Amazon Art Studio, will be hosting Amazon Art Class. The drawing class for adults will be held at the gallery on Wednesdays from 6 to 8 PM. Topics will range from anatomy, use of shadow and light, drawing basics, elements and principles of art, artists studies, etc. All supplies will be provided and students are encouraged to bring their own materials. Homework will sometimes be given to help a student along. The classes are designed so that a student may jump in at any time, however the lessons progress forward for the faithful students to strengthen and grow their skills. Jennifer has a Masters in Art Education and has been teaching for 13 years in many settings; public school, museums, after school and summer programs, private lessons, special needs and shelters. Her personal artwork has been in many galleries and venues for the past 5 years. She has shown works in NYC, NJ, and the Poconos.
