Featured Artists @ The First Friday Scranton Art Auction

Published: May 17, 2014

Held this year from 6-9PM at the historic Scranton Cultural Center at The Masonic Temple, the Fifth Annual First Friday Scranton Art Auction features a wide variety of talented artists. Here’s a small preview of some of those creative minds:
Amy Wyman
Amy Wyman - Arrangement With TomatoesAmy Lynn Wyman graduated with a BFA from Marywood University in 2011 and currently lives in the Scranton area. When she’s not working as a graphic designer or illustrator, she’s working on her own paintings, reading, writing or spending time with her family and friends. As for her body of work itself, she’s experimented in many mediums but the one most frequently used is oil. Her work uses a fairly representational style to communicate a personal take on the immediacy of the world. “I am not as much interested in presenting stark realism as I am in capturing and augmenting the hidden essence or secret soul of my subject matter. I’m pretty sure the goal of all art is to communicate. Whether it’s through pottery, illustration, mosaics or painting, the artist is just trying to participate in the human experience of hearing and being heard for who they are.” Her most recent work is the product of a 2 year obsession with the forests of NEPA. This is the subject matter she most frequently revisits unless she is being commissioned to do something else. She also enjoys landscapes like this because looking at them makes her feel at peace and at home. To see more of her work, you can visit her website, artbyamywyman.com.
